What Manchester City have planned for Rodri on first day of pre-season after he limped off against Al-Hilal

Manchester City get their pre-season programme underway amid uncertainty over Rodri’s fitness and also over his future at the club.

Rodri was out for most of the 2024/25 campaign due to an ACL injury, but returned to action in Man City’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth in May.

Rodri then made four appearances in the Club World Cup, including three starts, before limping off in the last-16 loss to Al-Hilal.

It has now been reported what Manchester City have in store for Rodri as soon as the players report back to training next week.

Rodri set to report back to Manchester City on Monday with fitness assessment on the cards

The good news is that Rodri is indeed expected to report back to training on Monday, according to Manchester Evening News journalist Tyrone Marshall.

However, the report claims City still plan to assess Rodri, in order to make sure he has a clean bill of health and can take part in pre-season as normal.

The Citizens will only have three weeks between the start of their pre-season programme and the Premier League campaign getting under way.

City plan to spend the first couple of weeks training at the City Football Academy as Pep Guardiola and his coaching staff try to get the players back up to fitness.

The Citizens will contest just one pre-season friendly this season, playing away at Palermo on Saturday 9 August, 8pm kick-off, for the Anglo Palermitan Trophy.

The latest around Rodri’s Manchester City future amid Real Madrid interest

Rodri has just two years left on his contract, so it’s no surprise that suitors have begun circling for the Ballon d’Or winner.

Real Madrid are eyeing Rodri as Toni Kroos’ successor, as Los Blancos are yet to replace the German after his departure last year.

Indeed, it has been reported that Real Madrid are willing to pay £100million to sign Rodri.

Manchester City intend to extend Rodri’s contract, but talks between Rodri and City haven’t particularly progressed.
