Shay Given says ‘brilliant’ Manchester City player is being wasted by Pep Guardiola now

Pep Guardiola rarely gets things wrong at Man City.

This term is one where many mistakes have been made by the Spaniard but the season the Premier League champions are currently experiencing is not all on the 54-year-old’s shoulders.

The 24/25 campaign has taken its toll on Guardiola as the legendary coach has spent a lot of time trying to work out how to fix City’s problems and despite the Manchester club’s issues, the season can still be salvaged by qualifying for the Champions League and winning the FA Cup.

Guardiola has stated that changes are coming to Man City this summer and that may involve one very expensive player in the Spaniard’s squad.

Pep Guardiola should use Jack Grealish as a number 10 at Man City

Jack Grealish received just three minutes of action against Crystal Palace on Saturday, which sums up how Guardiola currently feels about the Englishman, who has struggled at the Etihad this season.

This summer could see Grealish leave Man City and that is an outcome the Manchester club are happy with, even though the player is content with remaining with the Premier League giants for another season.

The winger’s only start within City’s last 15 games came against Leicester City, where Grealish impressed Man City fans with his performance in the number 10 role.

Shay Given believes this is where the 29-year-old should play when included in Man City’s team and it may be something Guardiola explores more next season, should the England star remain in Manchester.

“I think Jack is a brilliant player,” Given told Stadium Astro’s League of Legends. “I remember, especially at Aston Villa when we beat Liverpool in the semi-final. Jack was 17 or 18 and everyone was like ‘who is this player.’

“I actually think Jack is wasted sometimes playing for Man City, because he’s asked to play on the left side, in the Aston Villa team he was central to everything.

“There was the England vs Ireland game recently where he played a more central role and he was the best player on the pitch by a country mile. I would like to see Jack in those pockets, I think he’s such a brilliant player.”

Jack Grealish’s disappointing 24/25 campaign in numbers

Rodri called for Jack Grealish to step up at Man City this season and the midfielder would not have been the only one at the Manchester club to deliver this message to the winger.

This season has been a struggle for the 29-year-old and it has been reflected in the Englishman’s numbers.

Across the 19 Premier League games he has featured in, the Man City star has produced just one goal and one assist, having received just 714 minutes of action.

Grealish has been trying to turn his Man City form around but so far, the winger has had no luck as a change of position may be the only thing that does it for the winger.

Given the way Guardiola has used Grealish this season, it is hard to see the 29-year-old remaining at City beyond this summer, although the Manchester club may have some difficulty offloading the English star given his current salary.
