Manchester City fans are used to seeing the club being fairly active in the transfer market.
What those supporters aren’t too familiar with, certainly recently, is seeing City sign new players and add them to their squad during January transfer windows.
Specifically, the Manchester club do most of their transfer business in the summer.
For example, the previous summer window saw City seal a £33m deal for Savinho as well as bringing Ilkay Gundogan back to the Etihad Stadium on a free transfer from Barcelona.
In the final days of the November international break, a big behind-the-scenes piece of news emerged regarding Pep Guardiola.
This then led to a pundit and former Premier League player sharing his thoughts on what the upcoming January transfer window may look like for the Blues and how it could be different to previous ones.

Michael Dawson discusses Man City January transfer plans
Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson found himself on Sky Sports News discussing Tuesday night’s report from The Athletic claiming Guardiola has agreed to sign a one-year contract extension at City which has the option for an extra year.
When asked about how this update could impact City’s potential plans for the January transfer window, Dawson said this in response.
He said: “One thing with Pep, he won’t go out and sign loads and loads of players. They’ll be maybe one or two in January, if any.
“You look at the position has Rodri has left, it’s hard to replace him. Kevin De Bruyne’s coming back now. In the defensive area against Brighton, they were vulnerable.
“As I’ve said, I love the way they play, they’re a phenomenal team and that’s down to Pep Guardiola getting the best out of these players. They’ve lost four on the bounce and it surprises me.”
Guardiola has already hinted at January transfer movement
As Dawson mentioned, City lost Rodri to a season-ending injury back in September.
Not long after that, Guardiola hinted at signing a midfielder in January to fill the void left by the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner, saying this on the matter.
He said: “We will see. We talked today with Txiki [Begiristain], we will see what’s going on. We don’t have to decide tomorrow, right? We have time to see the potential problems we will have and after we will see.”
This makes it easy to see why Dawson has pinpointed the midfield as an area City could look to strengthen in January.
With the news of Guardiola’s future in mind, this could well impact City’s ability to land some January transfer deals in regards to the lack of uncertainty around who could be in charge of the team moving forward.
