The one job Pep Guardiola has ‘always’ been keen on taking after leaving Man City

The Pep Guardiola era at Manchester City has been one of the greatest the Premier League has ever seen.

The Spanish coach is set to enter his tenth year in charge of the Manchester club, a reign that has seen the legendary coach deliver every trophy possible to the fans at the Etihad Stadium.

When that will end is yet to be decided, but the 54-year-old’s current contract comes to an end in 2027 and this week, Guardiola has said that he will take a break once his time with Man City comes to an end.

The 2024/25 campaign has been the toughest since the Spaniard arrived at Man City and with players synonymous with his reign leaving Manchester this summer, with Kevin De Bruyne expected to move to the MLS and Ederson to Saudi Arabia, many wonder how much longer he will continue.

Pep Guardiola sees his dream job after Man City disappear

It is fair to say the Brazil national team is not what it once used to be as the current group of players is one of the weakest in the nation’s rich football history.

The Brazilian FA are keen to bring in Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti ahead of the 2026 World Cup and many feel it is a deal they can get done, which will see Guardiola’s dream job at international level slip away.

Speaking about the future of the Man City manager on Sky Sports’ Back Pages Tonight, Miguel Delaney was stated that the 54-year-old has always wanted the Brazil job, but that doesn’t seem to be an option for now.

“Well, the big one, I suppose, that we know he would have wanted is, you know, Mark’s touched on it there, international football,” Delaney said.

“And the one that was always considered was Brazil, and to restore Brazil’s first World Cup in 24 years, potentially 30 years, except for 2026, that looks like it’s not going to be an opportunity if he were to leave City even before then because Carlo Ancelotti is about to go there.”

“I mean, he wouldn’t take the Spain job, I don’t think, because of what a kind of a proud Catalan he is. He did play for Spain, but that’s not quite the same thing, I think. Obviously, there have been murmurs about England in the past.”

Guardiola has already put plans in place for next season, so his future is not on his mind at present. However, that Brazil job may be on the cards for the Man City boss in the future.

Has Pep Guardiola planned his future perfectly

Having coached and won everything in Spain, Germany and England throughout his coaching career, the international stage looks like it could be the next chapter in Guardiola’s story.

The Brazil and England jobs seem like the most realistic options for the 54-year-old when the time comes, and the chances of landing a role as head coach of the Selecao may be timed perfectly.

Guardiola will be at Man City until 2027 and after that, a year’s break is likely on the cards for the legendary coach. It is not certain how long Ancelotti’s potential deal with Brazil will last, but that could quickly end depending on the outcome of the 2026 World Cup and the 2028 Copa America.

Should a change be required after both tournaments, Guardiola is perfectly placed to take over and therefore, his Brazil dream is certainly not dead.
