There have been ‘murmurs’ that £54m Man City player could now go to Man United

Manchester City have made a bold decision ahead of the summer transfer window as they’ve allowed Kevin De Bruyne to leave the club.

De Bruyne is leaving Manchester City, and, as you can imagine, fans are gutted to see De Bruyne leaving.

De Bruyne is arguably City’s greatest ever player, and it’s sad to see this chapter closing.

The Belgian could move to MLS this summer, but there have been suggestions that the midfielder could stay in the Premier League.

There’s been a suggestion that Liverpool could sign De Bruyne, and now, according to Miguel Delaney, there have been some whispers around a potential move to Manchester United.

Kevin De Bruyne to Manchester United rumour is doing the rounds

Delaney spoke about De Bruyne and the idea of the Belgian staying in the Premier League.

The journalist says that there have been some murmurs about De Bruyne going to Old Trafford, but, that move is unlikely due to De Bruyne’s legacy at City and United’s fresh recruitment model.

De Bruyne is very settled in Manchester, so, in some ways, this move does make sense.

“Yeah, although, I suppose, not really gone for it so far. There had been presumption that he would go to Saudi, but that hasn’t happened yet. There is a lot of noise at the Premier League.

I think there’s been a few mischievous murmurs about Manchester United. But I don’t think, well, given how much United have spoken about their new recruitment model, you really couldn’t see them going on a U-turn like that. Would he want to, given his status at Man City?”

Why Manchester United move wouldn’t ruin Kevin De Bruyne’s legacy

In a lot of ways, it’s unthinkable to imagine Kevin De Bruyne in a Manchester United shirt. After all, he’s a Manchester City legend.

However, this potential transfer doesn’t have to be a legacy-ruiner.

Indeed, we’ve seen this sort of transfer happen before and certain players’ legendary status being retained.

Peter Schmeichel and Andy Cole both played for Manchester City in the early 2000s, and they’re still considered legends at United.

The reality is that City weren’t much of a threat to United at that point as they were a mid-table team while United were competing for league titles.

Now, those roles have completely reversed. United are the mid-table side looking at potentially bringing in veteran City cast-offs, and that isn’t necessarily something that City need to worry about or be threatened by.

It would be somewhat sour to see De Bruyne joining United, but, much like Schmeichel and Cole joining City, it doesn’t necessarily need to change how the £54m man is viewed as a legend at the Etihad.
