Man City secured a huge win over Everton on Saturday afternoon.

Many City fans expected a tough day for Pep Guardiola’s men at Goodison Park and would have been delighted about returning to Manchester with all three points after the Citizens defeated the Toffees 2-0 to move one step closer to Champions League football next season.

Pundits think the slow start Man City made against Everton could be a worry for the remainder of the season as many of the Premier League champions’ big stars failed to light up the contest in the opening 45 minutes, which continued for many into the second half.

Kevin De Bruyne was the hero for Man City against Crystal Palace last week and although he did not contribute against Everton, the home fans showed him big respect.

Everton fans applaud Man City’s Kevin De Bruyne off

Alan Shearer was full of praise for De Bruyne last week with the former Newcastle star stating that the Belgian is a player every striker would dream of playing with due to his ability to find his teammates.

This is a view many pundits, fans and players share of the 33-year-old, and that was evident last week when the midfielder was given a standing ovation at the Etihad Stadium.

Although the Man City legend did not replicate that performance against Everton, the fans at Goodison Park still showed their respect to De Bruyne, as the home supporters applauded the Premier League great when he was coming off the pitch for Manuel Akanji, reports Jack Gaughan.

This says it all about De Bruyne and how he is viewed in England that Everton fans felt the need to show their appreciation to the midfielder in case it is the last time they ever see the Belgian superstar play in the Premier League once he leaves Man City at the end of the season.

Man City didn’t deserve Everton win

Phil Foden recently spoke about Man City’s struggles this season and they were evident again at Everton as the Manchester club failed to great many chances without Erling Haaland up front.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Chris Sutton feels City didn’t deserve all three points against the Toffees, saying after Nico O’Reilly’s goal: “This would be an enormous three points. They don’t deserve it.”

At this stage of the season, Man City fans will not care about their team’s performance or whether they deserved to win or not.

It is all about results and the Premier League champions’ 2-0 win over Everton could go a long way to securing them Champions League football for next season.
