Pep Guardiola will be happy with the business Manchester City have completed so far this summer.
After an underwhelming 24/25 campaign, the Man City boss planned to add four to five new faces to his squad ahead of the current transfer window, with the Premier League giants achieving this by adding six.
James Trafford is the latest to join City, having completed his transfer from Burnley this week, with the goalkeeper set to challenge Ederson for the number one spot throughout the upcoming campaign.
As a result of the Englishman’s arrival, Stefan Ortega is set to leave Man City; however, it is now being said that there is still a chance that Ederson could follow the German.

Ederson could still leave Manchester City this summer
Galatasaray have been pushing to sign Ederson this summer as the Brazilian goalkeeper is open to a move away from Manchester, which is also the stance the goalkeeper had a year ago before staying.
Ederson is expected to stay at Man City for the 25/26 season, before leaving at the end of his contract next summer, but journalist Dean Jones has stated that the Brazilian could still depart the Etihad Stadium before the transfer window shuts.
“Stefan Ortega has been told he can leave Man City, but don’t rule out Ederson moving too. It would be surprising if both left, but should that happen, City will sign another goalkeeper,” Jones said on the Transfer from Paradise podcast.
“It is worth noting that James Trafford is not viewed as an automatic number one. But City see the position as open and competitive, and if he performs, he could stake a serious claim.”
When it comes to their goalkeepers, City’s main focus at present will be to find a new club for Ortega.
As for Ederson, the Manchester club are unlikely to entertain offers for the 31-year-old at this stage, as it does not give them much time to find a replacement.
Man City need to make James Trafford their number one
Guardiola’s plan heading into the 25/26 season is to have Ederson as his number one goalkeeper, with the Brazilian being supported by Trafford.
With the 31-year-old leaving at the end of the campaign, it would be wise for the legendary coach to switch their roles at some point this term, as the 22-year-old is the future of the Manchester club and having played in the Premier League already, it should not take him too long to settle.
| Player | Games | Goals Conceded | Clean Sheets | Minutes |
| Ederson | 40 | 54 | 13 | 3611 |
| James Trafford | 46 | 16 | 29 | 4050 |
The England star is similar in many ways to Ederson, and learning from the Man City legend over the coming weeks will be very beneficial to the former Burnley star.
It will be very interesting to see how this situation plays out for the coming months, but City fans should expect Trafford to be given a period in goal to prove himself.
