Chris Sutton says £55m Man City star is not good enough to play for Liverpool or Arsenal

Man City were hoping to be competing with Liverpool and Arsenal this season.

The Premier League champions have gone up against both English giants for the title in recent years with Pep Guardiola’s side coming out on top on the majority of occasions, with Liverpool’s success in 2020 being the only occasion where City have not triumphed in the last seven years

Having rested on their laurels this summer, Man City have dropped below their usual standards and instead of fighting for the Premier League title, the Manchester club are currently pushing to qualify for the Champions League.

A big reason for this was not refreshing their squad last summer as it has many players coming to the end of their careers, with Chris Sutton thinking one £55m star is not good enough to play for Liverpool or Arsenal.

Kevin De Bruyne told he is not good enough for Liverpool

Kevin De Bruyne is set to leave Man City at the end of the season after 10 very successful years at the Etihad Stadium, where the Belgian developed into one of the best players to ever play in the Premier League since completing his £55m move from Wolfsburg back in 2015.

However, this season has seen a major drop-off from the 33-year-old as the Man City legend has had to deal with injuries, while underperforming on several occasions as a result.

It remains to be seen where the midfielder will go next, with De Bruyne recently admitting that England is an option for him.

Don Hutchison would like to see De Bruyne move to Liverpool, however, Sutton doesn’t think the Belgian superstar is good enough to cut it at Anfield or Arsenal anymore.

“It’s based on his recent performances. So I get their decision,” Sutton said on It’s All Kicking Off! about De Bruyne after his comments this weekend about Man City not offering him a new deal. “Will he stay in the Premier League?

“Can he stay in the Premier League? I don’t think that, if you looked at the top teams, Liverpool or Arsenal, I don’t think that he would cut at either of those two clubs.”

MLS should be Kevin De Bruyne’s next destination

With De Bruyne turning 34 this summer, the Premier League is no longer a level the Belgian star can consistently compete, although he can still produce a performance such as Crystal Palace ever so often.

The midfielder would find it hard to break into Liverpool’s squad and why would the Man City star want to run the risk of ruining his legacy in Manchester?

De Bruyne has been linked with a move to Inter Miami and that is the perfect destination for the 33-year-old as he would be joining one of the best teams in the MLS, while also getting to further his legacy alongside Lionel Messi.

The Man City legend’s career in the Premier League is done and it should be remembered as being one of the best ever seen.
