How Jack Grealish is really viewed behind the scenes at Man City amid exit rumours

The future of Jack Grealish at Man City remains up in the air heading into the summer transfer window.

The Englishman remains the Manchester club’s record transfer after completing a £100m move from Aston Villa during the summer of 2021, but it is fair to say the winger has not lived up to that price tag.

This season has been a struggle for Grealish at the Etihad Stadium with the 29-year-old starting in just one of Man City’s last 17 matches and so far throughout the campaign, the winger has only contributed three goals and five assists.

This has led to rumours that Grealish will leave Man City this summer, but a new report has revealed how the winger his being viewed at the Manchester club ahead of the summer transfer window.

Man City will not allow Jack Grealish leave on loan

Grealish is happy at Man City and hopes to remain at the Etihad Stadium beyond the summer. However, interest in the winger remains, with his former club Aston Villa keen on bringing the Englishman back to Villa Park, while Tottenham and Newcastle have looked before, in addition to AC Milan.

If the 29-year-old is to leave City this summer, it will have to be a permanent deal as the Manchester club will not allow the £100m player to leave on loan, reports talkSPORT.

Man City know they would not be able to recoup the £100m they paid to trigger Grealish’s Aston Villa release clause and are reluctant to weaken the squad by sanctioning a temporary departure.

According to the report, with Kevin De Bruyne leaving Man City at the end of the season and Kyle Walker having already departed, Grealish is seen as one of the senior heads in the dressing room.

Having started in Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final win over Nottingham Forest, this has been seen as positive by the player’s camp and they will be hopeful of remaining there for the 2025/26 campaign.

Should Jack Grealish leave Man City

Having seen his role diminish in Guardiola’s squad this season, Ally McCoist thinks Grealish should leave Man City this summer as minutes will be key for the winger next season if he has ambitions to be in the England squad for the 2026 World Cup.

The question is, can the City star turn his form around, with Gary Neville believing Grealish has become too predictable and therefore, the winger will struggle to get back into Pep Guardiola’s starting 11 should he continue to be deployed out wide.

Grealish impressed when starting as a number 10 against Leicester City recently and this role may be the key to saving his Man City career, however, the Englishman is unlikely to be deployed in this position next season as Guardiola is keen on bringing Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz to the Premier League.

This would be a big blow for the 29-year-old’s hopes as it remains to be seen what happens with Grealish ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
