Vincent Kompany secured the first major trophy of his managerial career at the weekend.
The Belgian coach guided Bayern Munich to the Bundesliga title after losing their crown last season to Bayer Leverkusen after Xabi Alonso’s men drew with Freiburg on Sunday, which confirmed the title for Kompany’s men.
Man City fans were keen to congratulate Kompany for his achievement as this season has been an up-and-down one for Bayern, who dreamed of playing in the Champions League final at the Allianz Arena this season.
Nevertheless, Kompany achieved his main objective for the season and with Leroy Sane also adding another medal to his collection at Bayern, the winger believes Man City have a player in their current squad who could follow in the Belgian coach’s footsteps.

Leroy Sane can see Man City star becoming a manager
Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden expected Kompany to become a coach due to the way he carried himself whilst captain of Man City and Sane believes Ilkay Gundogan could follow his current manager into the profession.
Speaking to Soccer AM back in 2017, the winger named the German star as a potential future manager amongst the City squad at the time, when asked the question of who could take up a coaching role once they have finished playing.
“Gundogan,” Sane replied when asked who could become a future manager. “He is the type of player who is a very good person and has a very good character. I think he would do a really good job [as a manager].”
This is a thought others in the Man City squad may share as Bernardo Silva previously labelled Gundogan as the most intelligent player he has played alongside.
Gundogan will remain at Man City next season, but given that the German star turns 35 in October, the midfielder will certainly be thinking about his future.

Ilkay Gundogan has the traits of a manager
Gundogan is one of the most intelligent players the Premier League has ever seen and the German star has already shown he has the attributes to be a manager in the future.
His intelligence would be complemented nicely by both his personality and the leadership he has shown at both Man City and Barcelona in recent years.
Gundogan proved against Aston Villa in 2022 that he can perform under immense pressure, which is a factor many managers struggle with in the modern game, especially at big clubs where they are given very little time to showcase themselves.
Gundogan is certainly thinking about his future at present and it remains to be seen if the midfielder takes Sane’s advice and follows in the footsteps of his former teammate, Vincent Kompany.
