Manchester City host Wolves on Friday night as Pep Guardiola’s men continue their push for a place in next season’s Champions League.

The Manchester club have experienced an underwhelming campaign, but it can be salvaged by winning the FA Cup and FIFA Club World Cup, while also securing a place in the Champions League for next season as the City currently sit fourth.

Guardiola’s team has been in good form of late as they are undefeated in eight matches and Man City secured a huge win over Aston Villa last week, which has put them in a great position to achieve their goal in the Premier League.

The City boss made some surprising changes for their FA Cup semi-final with Nottingham Forest at the weekend and ahead of facing another in-form team in Wolves on Friday night, Guardiola is once again expected to field a different team.

Defence

With Ederson still out injured, Stefan Ortega will keep his place in between the sticks for Man City against Wolves.

In front of the German, Guardiola is not expected to change his back four as Man City’s defence has been solid since the Spanish coach has settled on a backline.

Matheus Nunes is set to line up at right back on Friday night and on the opposite wing, Nico O’Reilly will keep his place as the Man City youngster has received plenty of praise for his performances over the last few weeks.

Man City fans have loved Josko Gvardiol at centre-back and the Croatian star will remain in that role and will once again be partnered by Ruben Dias.

Midfield

Having put in a Man of the Match display against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, Mateo Kovacic will keep his place in the number six role in Man City’s team.

Changes are expected ahead of the 30-year-old as Jack Grealish and Rico Lewis are set to return to the bench for the Wolves clash with Ilkay Gundogan expected to start in one of the double 10 positions alongside Bernardo Silva.

It remains to be seen if the Portuguese star will remain at Man City beyond this summer as the midfielder has looked more like his brilliant self in recent weeks

Attack

Omar Marmoush has been a mainstay in Man City’s side ever since joining the club in January and the Egyptian is once again expected to be deployed on the left against Wolves on Friday night.

On the opposite flank, there are several options Guardiola can go with, put with Savinho starting against Nottingham Forest, the game at the Etihad Stadium could be the perfect opportunity for Phil Foden to return to the starting 11.

Leading the line in a free role up top, Kevin De Bruyne is very likely to return to the starting 11 after surprisingly being left out in the FA Cup semi-final.

Martin Odegaard described De Bruyne as ‘unbelievable’ recently and the Belgian star will look to replicate his Crystal Palace performance against Wolves as the 33-year-old looks to end his Man City career on a high having made the move to Manchester as part of a £55m deal in 2015.
