The Norwegian wonderkid came off the bench in the 46th minute to replace Sontje Hansen in attacking midfield.

Erling Haaland welcomed Nypan to Manchester City, which reflects the excitement surrounding the former Rosenborg youngster within the Etihad Stadium.

The good news for Pep Guardiola is that Middlesbrough fans believe Nypan, who Manchester City signed for £12 million looked like the real deal against Sheffield United.

Middlesbrough fans rave about Sverre Nypan’s display vs Sheffield United

One Middlesbrough fan lauded Sverre Nypan’s showing against Sheffield United by simply writing: “Nypan is actually him, my God, he’s unbelievable.”

Another Boro supporter claimed that the 18-year-old showed a different side to his game by getting stuck in defensively, writing: “Nypan put a massive shift in defensively there you know, stuff you wouldn’t expect from a [number] 10 but he made some crucial tackles.”

A third Middlesbrough fan broke down how Nypan, who Manchester City rate highly looks like an instant hit for Rob Edwards’ side after his heroics against Sheffield United: “Nypan was brilliant today. No settling in period for him. You can see he oozes quality. So comfortable in possession. A great interceptor, blocker and finds space beautifully to drop those sumptuous forward passes that are so beautifully weighted! He’s a gem.”

Another supporter mentioned that he can understand why Manchester City signed the teenager, considering he looks like the heir apparent to the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva: “Can tell exactly why city bought him…kid looks the heir apparent to KDB and Silva.”

A fifth fan also mentioned how well-rounded the youngster looks in midfield, stating: “He looks different class and at such a young age. Making tackles, good blocks, great passes and has the vision…hope it continues.”

Finally, a sixth Middlesbrough fan also praised Nypan’s exploits against Sheffield United, writing: “Nypan was amazing today. Played one half of football. Tackled, pressed, passed well and clearly looks like he’s got vision and creativity ready to unleash. Wouldn’t be surprised if he becomes a regular starter.”

Boro fans’ overwhelmingly verdict must be music to Manchester City’s ears.

Man City believe Sverre Nypan is similar to Real Madrid wonderkid

However, Nypan impressing at Middlesbrough and quickly becoming a fan favourite after his bright display against Sheffield United will not surprise the scouts at City.

The reason is that Manchester City believe Nypan is similar to Franco Mastantuono as a young talent.

Fabrizio Romano revealed: “This is a massive one because let’s say Man City believe this could be the European [Franco] Mastantuono, in the sense of a top talent available on the market at a good price, in this case, a player they really like and wanted since January. I remember in January, many people attacked me because I said City were in the race, and people said he was not going to City. No, guys, he’s going to City. And you can see he’s going to City.”

Romano added: “Aston Villa tried to enter this race a few months ago, but because of financial fair play, to invest this money on a boy, while without Champions League football, they could invest this money in different players, is also what made the difference.”
