After several months of speculation around his future, Pep Guardiola put all the question marks to bed by signing a two-year contract extension at Manchester City.

Guardiola’s new contract will run out in 2027, despite there initially being reports that he has signed a one-year deal with an option to extend it for an additional year.

Guardiola’s reason for extending the contract for two years instead of just one was to avoid there being any uncertainty around his future at City during the 2025/2026 season.

A huge reason why Pep Guardiola signed a new deal is because he did not wish to leave Manchester City in the same summer as Txiki Begiristain.

Rodri’s view on Guardiola’s new contract was that it is incredible news for not just City but the Premier League as a whole.

Manchester City supporters must be delighted by the Catalan committing his future at the Etihad Stadium, despite the club having an underwhelming season so far.

Pep Guardiola’s brother asks him to become Girona manager

Guardiola’s advice to Manchester City’s players during their ongoing struggles with form and injuries has been not to “feel sorry” for themselves and embrace the challenge of rediscovering their best selves.

The two-time treble-winning manager still seems fired up, which is why City tying him down to a new deal was a masterstroke.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Pere Guardiola, Pep Guardiola’s brother and the chairman of Girona revealed that he has asked the Manchester City boss to manage the Spanish club one day.

Pere Guardiola said, laughing: “Yes, I always say, ‘the day when you get bored, you can come and coach Girona!’

However, he doubts Pep Guardiola will ever agree to such a move.

“In life, you never know but I don’t think it’s going to happen! But Girona is a very good place for football. The weather is great. The region is good. The club itself has a pressure because we live 24-hour football, but the environment and the history there is not that pressure like with big clubs.”

It was reported in November that managing Brazil interests Guardiola, with him potentially looking to manage a nation in preparation of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

Ronaldo eyes Pep Guardiola as his number one target to take over the Brazil job, as it was claimed that the retired striker feels his appointment could lead him to become the president of the Brazilian Football Federation.

Guardiola already revealed he wants to manage an international team

In 2021, Guardiola signalled his ambitions to manage an international side.

Guardiola said via Sky Sports: “I’ve said many times when we’ve finished our part here, for the pleasure to live in a European Championship, a World Cup, I would like to live it but I know it is not easy to find it because normally there are few positions.”

“I think it is difficult for it to happen. I would like it but, at the same time, if it does not happen, I will train a club. That is not a problem.”

Considering Pep Guardiola has reiterated this very dream on multiple instances, international football might be his next managerial target.

For now, Guardiola’s focus will not be on his long-term future and simply on masterminding Manchester City’s turnaround.
