Manchester City are expected to go big in the transfer market this summer.

This season has been very underwhelming for the Manchester club but it could be salvaged by winning the FA Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup, in addition to qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

Premier League champions Liverpool expect Man City to bounce back next season and that will be achieved through finding solutions within the current squad, which Guardiola has begun doing, in addition to new signings arriving at the Etihad Stadium.

Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd is unsure Guardiola will remain at Man City next season and he also has doubts over a potential new signing the Manchester club have been linked with.

Kris Boyd is unsure about Diogo Costa signing

There is uncertainty around the future of Ederson at Man City heading into the summer window as it has become more likely that the Brazilian will end his eight-year stay at the Etihad.

Should the goalkeeper depart, Guardiola will need a replacement and Hugo Viana is said to be a fan of Porto’s Diogo Costa.

The Portuguese goalkeeper is said to have already given the green light to the move and having heard all of this news, Sky Sports pundit Boyd is not sure if it’s a bit of business the Manchester club need to do right now.

“Look at Man City right now, a total rebuild is needed,” Boyd said on Sky Sports News on Wednesday morning. “Ederson is 31, do you really need to replace him right now? Really.

“I know they’re looking at goalkeepers, Costa, the Portugal number one, he could be long-term, they feel he could be the number one, but I’m not sure where City are headed right now. All of their signings in the past have worked, but I don’t know.”

Is Diogo Costa good enough for Man City

Man City have had success shopping in Portugal for goalkeepers before as Ederson also impressed at Benfica before completing his £35m switch to Manchester in 2017.

Costa has spent his entire career at Porto having come through their academy and making a move for the 25-year-old is a risk as he is unproven at the highest level, although there have been some promising signs.

The big attraction for Guardiola is Costa’s ability to play with the ball at his feet, while the Portuguese star also has a calmness about him, which complements each other.

The 25-year-old is a well-rounded goalkeeper and on paper, he seems a good fit for Man City. Whether he is good enough cannot be answered until he lines up in a Premier League match for the Manchester club, which is a risk the English giants may need to take.
