Txiki Begiristain has lauded Oscar Bobb after he decided to extend his contract with Manchester City.

Bobb, whose deal was initially expiring in 2026 has now been tied down with a long-term contract at the Etihad Stadium until 2029.

After the 20-year-old started for City in their 1-0 win against Brentford, Pep Guardiola admitted that he hopes he stays at the club for several more years.

Txiki Begiristain tips “superb natural talent” Oscar Bobb to reach the top

Recently, Graeme Souness hailed the Norwegian wonderkid as a “fabulous player” and claimed that he could push Jack Grealish for a place in the Sky Blues’ starting XI.

Nathan Ake also believes the youngster has a “big future” ahead of him and described him as “technically unbelievable.”

Now, Txiki Begiristain has heaped praise on Oscar Bobb as well.

“Oscar [Bobb] is blessed with superb natural talent and technique and has already established himself as a very important member of the squad”, he said [via Manchester City’s official website].

“He is an exciting young player who is always hungry to learn and who takes on board all the advice and guidance Pep [Guardiola] and the coaching staff provide him with.”

“We have been delighted to watch his progression from our academy through to the first team and to see his fantastic ability, attitude and application continue to prosper.”

Txiki Begiristain also gave his thoughts on seeing Oscar Bobb rise up the ranks and become a first-team player at Manchester City.

“And to have another young player emerge from our academy and become a first-team player is a source of huge pride for everyone at the football club.”

“Oscar is developing all the time, and we believe he can help to bring even more success to the club in the coming years.”

Oscar Bobb should stay patient

In January, Pep Guardiola revealed that Txiki Begiristain told him at the end of last season that Oscar Bobb was the “best player” for the Elite Development Squad.

As a result, Guardiola decided to take Bobb on the pre-season tour in Japan in the summer and as they say, the rest is history.

It is clear to see that Begiristain has always rated Bobb highly.

The teenager must remain patient and wait his turn as in a few years, one can see him starting games week in and week out for City.

Much like Phil Foden, Oscar Bobb could also become the fulcrum of this Sky Blues side if he bides his time and continues to gain experience at the elite level.

Bobb’s decision to extend his contract indicates that he is not in a hurry and is happy to slowly but surely progress at the senior level at arguably the best club in the world.
