Bernardo Silva has played alongside Scott Carson at Manchester City since 2019.

Considering Carson has spent as long as he has at City, there would be questions several fans and pundits would ask about his actual role in the side.

The 39-year-old has made one appearance for Manchester City and apart from that, he continues to remain the club’s third-choice goalkeeper.

Pep Guardiola once described Carson as Manchester City’s “captain” in the confines of the dressing room.

In May, the veteran extended his contract at the Etihad Stadium until 2025.

After first joining Manchester City on loan from Derby County in 2019, Carson’s deal was extended until the end of the 2020/2021 season.

Bernardo Silva explains what Scott Carson does at Man City

In 2021, the Englishman’s contract expired at Derby as he was signed permanently by City.

Rio Ferdinand once claimed Carson “deserves respect” and stressed that his role at the club cannot be undermined.

In an interview with Pro: Direct Soccer, Bernardo was quizzed about Carson’s role behind the scenes at Manchester City.

“He’s obviously had a very long career with a lot of experience in top clubs and he helps a lot. I think the main thing is he helps a lot maintaining the high standards in the training sessions.”

“He always pushes everyone to train hard. So, very important guy in our dressing room as well.”

Jack Grealish reacted to Carson’s contract extension at Manchester City until 2024 by expressing his happiness online, writing, “Best news ever.”

In January, it was reported Manchester City nearly signed Asier Riesgo over Carson.

However, the former Liverpool goalkeeper has become somewhat of a cult-like figure since his move to City.

Even Kalvin Phillips revealed he looks up to Carson due to his incredible work ethic and positive mindset.

Rio Ferdinand stunned by what Pep Guardiola once told him about Carson

The ex-Derby shotstopper seems like one of the most adored figures in the dressing room.

Once, Rio Ferdinand revealed Pep Guardiola named Carson as one of the most key players in the Sky Blues squad.

“Scott Carson’s one of the most important members of his squad. I was like, ‘what?’ He said, ‘name two or three.’ I was naming the obvious names like [Kevin] De Bruyne, these guys. He’s like, Scott Carson. English, understands what’s needed every day, the standards and not afraid to tell people. Love that.”

“I was sitting there thinking, ‘bloody hell.’ I’m standing there probably thinking before that, ‘how’s Scott Carson still nicking contracts at his age?’ But, phenomenal.”

Pep Guardiola seems to value Carson highly, considering he was handed another new contract in the summer.

The England international’s presence at Manchester City is certainly one of the biggest feel-good stories around the club.

Ultimately, Carson’s presence seems to be admired by superstar names such as Bernardo as well, which is refreshing to hear.
