With Jamal Musiala’s contract at Bayern Munich set to expire in 2026, Manchester City are one of the many clubs to have been linked with his signature.
In September, Fabrizio Romano revealed Manchester City’s interest in Musiala by guaranteeing that if he fails to agree a contract extension with Bayern, the club will pounce at the chance to sign him.
It was reported under two weeks ago that Bayern held positive talks with Musiala in their first meeting with him about extending a contract at the Allianz Arena.
It was also stated that the 21-year-old has a strong relationship with his manager Vincent Kompany.
In five appearances in the Bundesliga this season, Musiala has registered three goals and one assist.
The German international has enjoyed yet another positive start to the campaign for Bayern and he looks set to have yet another season to remember.

Musiala contract update emerges as Man City plot 2025 transfer
In July, journalist Christian Falk revealed that Musiala is viewed as the heir to Kevin De Bruyne by Manchester City.
Notably, De Bruyne’s contract at City runs out in 2025; a factor that could potentially play a role in the club’s reported pursuit of the former Chelsea wonderkid.
Bayern’s willingness to tie the youngster down to a long-term contract cannot be called into question.
Club president Herbert Hainer expressed Bayern’s desire to keep Musiala at the club for as long as possible, naming him as the potential second coming of Thomas Mueller.
However, with how talented the Stuttgart-born attacker is, his age profile as well as his ceiling, most clubs in world football would be keeping a close eye on his contractual situation in Bavaria.
Leroy Sane tipped Musiala to win the Ballon d’Or — which is a testament to how much respect he already commands from his peers.
Journalist Florian Plettenberg has claimed that Musiala has had “very positive talks” with Bayern and he is now “open” to extending his contract beyond 2026 at Bayern.
Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl has been informed about the highly-rated dribbler’s desire.
The revered midfielder’s contract could be extended until either 2029 or 2030 if a deal is agreed.
Musiala, who is believed to be earning €8 million (£6.7 million) to €9 million (£7.5 million) could be subject to a salary hike of €25 million (£20.9 million) as well as bonuses if he puts pen to paper.
Currently, the in-form attacker is not believed to have held any talks with Manchester City or Real Madrid over a potential exit.
Man City should remain active in Jamal Musiala race
Ultimately, if Musiala has decided that his future lies at Bayern, Manchester City might struggle to change his mind.
However, City should remain active in the race for the sought-after creator’s signature just in case he fancies an exit.
Musiala has the potential to become one of, if not the outright best player in world football for years to come.
As Sane stated, a talent like his countryman could even contend for the Ballon d’Or in the future.
For both club and country, Musiala is one of the most consistent players in the world.
Whether that is under Pep Guardiola or even after his departure, the potential acquisition of the young midfielder would be an incredible asset for the club’s future managers.
Musiala’s potential signing would mean he would be added to a team that already features players like Erling Haaland (24), Phil Foden (24), Josko Gvardiol (22), Rico Lewis (19), Oscar Bobb (21), Savinho (20) and Jeremy Doku (22) — who still have massive upsides left to target in their careers.
But as things stand, it seems like the Bayern talisman seems happy to prolong his spell at the club.
